Do What Needs to be Done

I was thinking over the many expressions and warnings I was given as a child. I remember all the directions. So many expressions came at me from my dad, grandmother, and the sisters who taught at my Catholic School. There is one consistent message from all of them: our responsibility to see what needs to be done and to do it. The messages all said the same thing: do not wait for someone to figure it all out, but step up, step in, and get something done.

I was struck by the story of another of our Community Champions. This is the story of Ana Rosa Garcia.

Ana Rosa Garcia is the parent of a child who attends one of KenCrest’s Early Learning Centers. She helps with any school project and is always willing to go above and beyond. For instance, the Early Learning Center had a Cultural Day where families had to bring something for a presentation. Ana presented on the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico with a giant posterboard, and her daughter dressed in their cultural outfit from the Dominican Republic. Every Teacher’s Appreciation Day, she gives gifts to her child’s class and all staff. She is a working mother and always finds the time to help us in our community and make others feel appreciated for their hard work.

Ana also has taken a stand for inclusion, explaining the rich cultures she has experienced in her life, which adds to the richness of all our lives! Inclusion is about everyone!

Thank you, Ana, for continually making a difference in our Early Learning Centers and community. Thank you for bringing your giftedness to us for doing what needs to be done.

Think of your own life, of the many expressions and warnings you are given. Do you feel the call of responsibility? If so, how are you going to step up?
